Ghosts I've Met - From A Spark

Ghosts I've Met is the music project of Seattle-based singer-songwriter and musician Sam Watts. Created in 2005, the project has featured a list of players such as former Modest Mouse members Ben Blakenship and Brent Arnold, and adding Margaret White of Sparklehorse and Michael Lerner of the Antlers a year later when Watts moved to Brooklyn. Then, in 2007, after a successful cross country tour, Watts met and fostered a friendship with songwriter Darren Jessee of Ben Folds Five who introduced him to a world filled with authors and poets influencing his songwriting.

Watts' debut album, From A Spark, is a nine-song collection of pastel lamentations with poetic and impressionistic lyrics. Rather than focusing on storytelling, Watts uses music shaded with blues and grays to create the melancholy mood surrounding the songs' short poetic lines. The album's heavyhearted gentleness is graceful and its loneliness soothing. As a result, From A Spark is an exquisitely tranquil debut awash in an alluring sadness that keeps you listening.
