The Nashville based group, Field Days, is a splinter from the indie band, Paper Rival. It is the solo-project of Patrick Damphier, who was the guitarist and is currently the bassist for The Mynabirds. Damphier formed Field Days after the lead singer, Jake Rolleston, left the band to go back to school. Now, Field Days have self-released their first full length album, Projector (April 2010), which was recorded on a 4-track machine that once belonged to Loretta Lynn.
Projector is a wonderfully composed album of indie-pop songs. Each track has a catchy melody, pretty harmonies, and a lot of finger-picking on the acoustic guitar. And, the lyrics are interesting tales about love and life made more believable by Damphier's humble and earnest vocals.
Projector is a first-rate album with fantastic songs from start to finish. But, it isn't just the songs; the cover art is impressive too. The artwork and the packaging for each limited edition copy is laboriously hand-made which is a task that could only be accomplished with a great amount of respect and love for the art.
